Day 18 & 19: Jenny launched from Pohue Bay at 6:30am, there was a small beach break but with the wind and swell in her favor it was otherwise an easy 6 hour paddle to Miloli’i. We had originally planned on camping at the beach but Melanie Fuller generously provided us with a beautiful rental property instead. Margie & Mike Oates met with her with a fresh lei and beer and helped load the kayak on their truck for safe keeping overnight. The house we were lucky enough to stay at is called “The Cove,” with an ocean front infinity pool and hot tub Jenny said she felt like she was cheating! After taking her second proper shower of the trip she settled into the hot tub to relax and enjoy the day! Max Dible from West Hawaii Today had been looking to do an interview so she got in touch with him and told him about her journey.
Cassidy had some great photos from her time shore crewing down by green sands so she submitted those as well. Her story made the front page! We had a great dinner, it was a little strange to all be sitting around a table rather than a camp stove! Though the weather report this morning wasn’t ideal Jenny is clean and well rested and on the home stretch! She is headed to Ho’okena beach (only 12 miles down the coast) which is her last camp spot! We will try to post an early update tomorrow with information about her estimated arrival time for anyone who wants to come welcome her back to the pier!
