In an infrared sauna, it is the infrared waves that cause you to sweat, not the hot air as it is with a traditional sauna. The air temperature is nearly irrelevant in an infrared sauna. The most important part of infrared therapy is the quality and quantity of the infrared waves. Clearlight’s patented carbon/ceramic heaters provide the best infrared wave quality available.

Infrared heat is more effective at lower temperatures. The lower temperatures produce a fat based sweat and sweating from your sebaceous glands. Toxins are stored in our body fat. Infrared sweat has about 18-20% toxins, compared with only about 3-5% toxins in a high-heat sweat. The Clearlight Infrared Sauna is designed to heat your body more than heating the air (about 80% of the waves heats your body and 20% of the waves heats the air).

From the book Beyond Antibiotics:

“Saunas are being used by some doctors to stimulate the release of toxins from the bodies of their patients. They have found that a lower temperature (105-130 F) sauna taken for a longer duration is most beneficial. These low temperatures stimulate a fat sweat, which eliminates toxins stored in fat as opposed to the high temperature sauna, which encourages a water sweat.”

According to Dr. Sara Gottfried, Medical Doctor and author, Younger: The Breakthrough Program To Reset Your Genes And Reverse Aging  states:

“Saunas reset DNA: Regular sessions in a sauna give the body a shock of heat, which appears to help reset its fine-tuning mechanisms, including DNA. A sauna activates the longevity gene FOXO3, which turns on genes for stress resilience, production of disease-fighting antioxidants, maintenance of proteins (to keep muscles strong), DNA repair (prevents mutations) and tumor killing. So using a sauna is handy as we get older because it seems to boost exactly the genes that become less effective with age…studies show when you make more FOXO3 (because you are genetically predisposed to do so or because you enjoy a regular session in the sauna), you triple your chance of living to 100. Even if you have a sauna only once every couple of months your heart will benefit.”
