Robert Matthew Bernstein, MD is Director of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In addition, he is a member of the Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders and Cedars-Sinai Orthopedic Center. He is also the orthopedic surgeon for the Skeletal Dysplasia Clinic at Cedars-Sinai.
Board certified in orthopedics, Dr. Bernstein is internationally recognized as an expert in the areas of scoliosis and spinal deformity, hip dysplasia, clubfeet, children's fractures, limb lengthening, children with limb deficiencies, arthrogryposis and other skeletal dysplasias.
Dr. Bernstein's research findings have been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, Spine, Journal of Orthopedic Trauma, Current Opinion in Orthopaedics and the American Journal of Orthopaedics. In addition, Dr. Bernstein has written a number of chapters for various orthopedic textbooks and has lectured internationally.
Dr. Bernstein is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Scoliosis Research Society, the Association of Children's Prosthetic and Orthotics Clinics and the Western Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Bernstein received his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed an internship at the University of South Florida and an orthopedic residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Children's Hospital in Boston and a fellowship in spine surgery at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
